What Are Macros-Fats.

Along with protein, fats are an essential macronutrient for our survival.

Its important to note that fat also contains the most calories per gram of all of the macro nutrients. At 9 calories/gram. (Protein and carbs are 4 cals/gram). Is this bad? Nope. Just something to be mindful of.

Why are fats important?

  • Probably the most important role fats play in our body is its role in our proper hormone function/hormone health. We Require fats for our hormones to function properly, hence it being an essential macronutrient.

  • Fat is a great secondary energy source and well utilised in low intensity activity where glycogen doesn’t necesarily need to be utilised.

  • Fats are a primer for our nervous system as well as a transporter for fat soluble vitamins/ nutrients our bodies need to function optimally.
